#BEYOUROWN-BEYOUROWN

Meet Angela Simson a female health and happiness coach who is also an incredibly talented loved-filled writer and speaker. Did we yet mention that Angela, a mother of two young girls is an absolute champion at supporting other young female pioneers whilst being an A1 cheerleader in wellbeing? No, we didn’t- but there, we said it! We are totally in love with this interview with such a charming free-spirit, so read on if you fancy learning how to stay happy, healthy and motivated.

Can you share your journey with us so far Angela?

Sure! Let me start with who I am and where I’m at in my journey now. I’m Ange. I’m a female Health and Happiness Coach, writer and speaker. I’m a Mumma to two beautiful little girls and the wife of my favourite man in the whole world. I’m a gratitude giving gal who is always learning, growing and expanding. Nothing makes me happier than being with my loves, playing by the water and working with women so that they can have the happiest and healthiest lives they can.

My journey has been long and full of many different stages but mostly my journey to gratitude started when Bo was a tiny baby.

I was in the car one day when Bo was only a few months old, driving to see the chiropractor because she had some problems with her neck.  She was in the back of the car screaming, she hated the car! I could feel my stress levels rising and I pulled over the car for the 4th time to get her out and soothe her, frustrated as anything and wanting to cry.  I was running late, Bo hated the car and it was all getting on top of me. But I had this moment when getting her out of the car and I realised that some people would give anything to be in my situation. I had a beautiful baby girl, I was in the car taking her to see a healthcare practitioner that I could easily afford and that was my biggest stress that day.  Who on earth was I not to feel so incredibly blessed at that moment? But I allowed all the things out of my control, her discomfort in the car and my poor timekeeping to overshadow how incredibly lucky I really was! So I made a decision there and then to stop choosing to focus on the discomfort and start focusing solely on gratitude. It changed everything for me.  I became more present and happier within a week and over the long run, I started to see big changes in my health, relationships, and life.

Then from that moment, I knew that I wanted to share with women the incredible magic of gratitude, especially when mixed with self-love and health!

What is the story behind your journey as a health and happiness coach? What motivated and inspired you to have a career in this field?

I started my business, The Gratitude Project four years ago. There were many things that motivated me to create The Gratitude Project – in particular, my own personal experiences of choosing gratitude over discomfort and fear, and the profound this impact this had on my health and happiness. One key memory I have was when my daughter Bo was only a few months old – but I’ll tell you more about that below!

During my studies at IIN https://bit.ly/2v9fiex I realised the profound effect that coaching can have on a person’s life. It’s not about ‘fixing’ people or trying to figure out how they can be their best, it’s about supporting and encouraging them to find the answers.  Having someone to facilitate that personal transformation is so amazing and I love that I can be that for so many women now in my coaching business!

What training did you undertake?

I studied at the Institute for Integrated Nutrition https://bit.ly/2v9fiex). It was one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself, my family and my career!

Any common misconceptions about your industry?

That we’re all perfect, bike riding, green smoothie drinking goddesses.  Trust me, most of us love ice cream as much as you do!

What about any challenging times you have had to overcome? When were they and how did you learn to overcome them?

I’ve had a few but most challenging was when I had issues with my heart. A trip to the hospital, being revived, two procedures and some very lengthy healing! But it definitely helped me to grow as a person and look at when it comes to healing.  I previously had wanted to put it in the hands of others but I realise that it’s up to me!

Have you ever had to deal with any doubts of contention or lack of support from relatives or friends? If so how did you push through?

Definitely!  The best way to push through is to have 100% certainty in what you’re doing.  If you have any doubts then it’s hard to keep going!

Did you have a mentor or a coach that advised you whilst starting up?

Yes, and I still recruit the help and support of a coach now. I can’t recommend it highly enough!

What does success look like in your eyes?

Success to me looks like balance, time spent with family, building a thriving business I love and working with amazing and inspiring women. it also means being unapologetically me and living in alignment with what that means.

What outlets do use to market yourself?

I’m a huge fan of social media to promote my work! It’s a great tool to be able to portray your true and authentic self which I think more and more people are wanting these days! It’s all about connection to me!

What are the top 3 social media platforms you use that are the most effective to promote your personal brand?

I’m a big lover of Instagram and Facebook. But I also love in-person events too (not that this is a social media platform!) Nothing beats in-person connection in my eyes!

Best advice you could give to our audience of women looking to have a future career in the coaching industry?

Focus on service, utilise your skills and treat others as you’d like to be treated!

Are there any influential coaching leaders you look up to? If so why?

Mostly my friends in the industry! Because I know them on a deep level and I see the beauty and intention in what they’re sharing!

What Youtube or online space channels are watching currently?

I love Mindvalley and Brendon Burchard is totally my obsession right now!

What is a good article or book you have read recently?

I’m loving the book Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu at the moment!

How do you wind down?

Sharing cuddles in bed with my family, taking beach walks and chilling out with yoga always help me wind down!

Can you give us 1 tip on how to stay happy, healthy and motivated?

Let how you feel guide you.  I used to push so hard to achieve and now, as a mother, I know that I have to really listen in and follow what feels right so in those moments when I need to hustle, either in my business or kids out the door, I have the energy to do that!

Lastly what projects do you have coming up for 2018 for you?

I’ll be launching my online wellness program – Health Hub!  It’s a coming together of many different wellness professionals and a nutrition program to help people get healthy with ease, grace and flow!
