Welcome Dr Francis, thank you for taking your time with us, can you introduce yourself to us?

I am a licensed mental health practitioner, the founder and owner of Scottsdale Premiere Counseling, and body image specialist.

Can you talk us through the path you have pathed to where you are now as a Licensed Professional Counsellor?

I have been treating individuals in the mental health field for over 20 years. I received my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2010 and worked at Psychological Counseling Services for 10 years. There I saw patients in the Intensive Outpatient Program who struggled with sexual compulsivity. It was there that I worked with individuals on their body image. In 2017, I opened up my own private practice, Scottsdale Premiere Counseling.

This year, I am launching my first online course, Bye Bye Body Blame: You Deserve to Love Your Body without Having To Lose Weight. I want to make mental health more accessible and this course will help give individuals the tools and coping skills to develop body respect and body appreciation.

What sparked your interest in becoming a Counsellor?

My career chose me. I knew that I wanted to serve others in some way. It was my calling.

How did you launch Scottsdale Premier Counseling and how has the journey been so far?

My private practice success is in part due to the fact that I believed it would be successful. I get in the rooms with people that inspire me and help me to grow as a business owner.

Can you tell us three ways in which your clients can benefit from working with you though individual therapy?

My therapy style is care-fronting with compassion. I help individuals feel safe and help them peel back the layers of their trauma. Clients experience improvements in their overall self-worth. More specifically, clients suffering from a negative body image stop chronic dieting, learn to have an intuitive relationship with their food, improve their self-esteem, develop self-compassion, and end the negative thinking and self talk towards themselves and their body.

Where can you see yourself within the next 5 years and how are you planning to grow?

Selling my online courses and membership and creating a Mental Health Studio.

What avenues are you exploring to promote Scottsdale Premier Counseling?

I am grateful that I continue to be asked to do speaking events and podcasts. Additionally, social media has been a great marketing tool.

You offer your expertise in many areas such as food and weight management, body image, sexual health and life changes, but what is your most favoured aspect of your role?

I am always honoured to be a part of someone’s journey of their healing process.

What challenges have you seen to have been presented during the growth of Scottsdale Premier Counseling?

Managing the demand.

How do you define your own success?

I don’t define it. It is an intuitive feeling for me.

What does #BEYOUROWN mean to you?

Empowerment.

Finally, what are you working on throughout 2019?

I am thrilled to be launching my online course, ‘Bye Bye Body Blame: You Deserve to Love your Body without Having To Lose Weight.’ This course is for the person who is sick of chronic dieting and being at war with their body. Often times we are told how we look is not good enough.

We sucked into diet culture and invest dollars, time and energy towards changing our appearance. And we lose out on opportunities to excel our business, pursue adventures, get in front of the camera, get into the rooms of successful people because we are feeling insecure about how we look. Bye Bye Body Blame teaches you what Diet Culture is, so you can name it, pivot, and move on from it. It teaches you empowerment to elevate your self-worth regardless of your body size and shape. It teaches you how to heal the relationship with your body. Why? Because you Deserve it!
