Hey Kim, can you introduce yourself to us?
I’m Kim Mellor, a 34 years old former full-time professional model who lives in Liverpool UK with my partner Lewis.
Can you take us through your journey as to how you arrived at where you are now?
Growing up I have never liked being told what to do, so I knew I would be working for myself from a young age but I just didn’t know to do what exactly. I was never someone who knew exactly what they wanted to be, I just knew I wanted to earn lots of money and travel. I still went to college and university where I studied sports and exercise science but the thought of getting a job just didn’t appeal. Also from the age of 15, I started modelling, and I did that all throughout college and university, so when I graduated from university I threw myself in and went full time.
My modelling career has taken me all over the world and I had an absolute blast in my 20’s!! But with modelling being my sole income, I felt very vulnerable because I had nothing to fall back on. At 28 I also started wanting more from life, more stability, more fulfillment and to become more myself, that’s when I found my passion and what I do today.
As a network marketing professional, what were the first few steps to getting started?
The first few steps were full of anticipation, fear, and excitement. What if it didn’t work? what would people think of me? But the fear of not saying yes was more fearful because I had no control over my future.
How are you planning to expand your team?
My vision is huge! I will have a thriving business in all the countries we are in. Social media has played a big part in global expansion as its so easy to meet people online from all over the world!! I now have an amazing business in Puerto Rico because of an Instagram message back in December, how amazing?!?
Can you tell us what areas you have struggled in professionally as an entrepreneur?
My biggest struggle was public speaking. I was confident smiling in front of a camera, but public speaking was my worst fear. I knew It was something I had to overcome if I was going to reach my full potential, so I got hypnotised, I went on lots of courses and gradually with a lot of courage and time I now love it and have spoken in front of 3000 people at our recent conference
Have you ever had a mentor? If so how has this benefitted you to grow?
Absolutely, I say that I am the poster child of personal development. In the past five and a half years, I have certainly worked hard in developing myself by reading every single day and being coached by the best in the business. It’s so important to be coachable, why scrape your knees on the way up if someone can throw you down a rope? As one of my mentors, Jim John says “A formal education will make you a living, self-education will make you a fortune.”
Absolutely! So what outlets do use to market your business?
My business is solely online, which is what makes it so appealing. It’s a virtual online franchise that you can build wherever you are in the world! But Instagram is my FAV.
Which methods are you using to build your own network?
Social media is huge for me, I love it! In particular, Instagram has been amazing for me. I think its important in whatever you do, to just get out there and add value to peoples lives and through doing that people will come to you.
What do you believe are the common misconceptions of the network marketing industry are?
Network marketing has been around for years. Many people don’t understand the profession or, they know someone who knew someone who had a bad experience and so make a judgment about it. They think you have to ‘sell’ products or that it isn’t a viable business. The truth is that network marketing is one of the smartest, fastest growing professions globally and is worth almost $200 billion a year. Network marketing has changed my life and I believe it is the solution to a lot of peoples problems. And as Forbes recently said ‘having a 2nd income is the new job security’
What would you like to see changed in within the Network Marketing industry?
What will happen over the next few years is that everyone will understand it, and 1 out of every 8 households will be a part of network marketing. It will be the way we all do business, we all recommend things every day, so when you mix that with the highest quality consumable products, its a no-brainer.
What is the best piece of advice you have received to date?
That the opinions of others won’t pay your bills.
What is the number 1 critical lesson you have learned in your career so far?
Be patient. Not everything works out in the exact time you want it to.
How do you create an evenly balanced work and personal life?
It’s hard to do that, especially when you love what you do, but I and my partner have cut off times in the evening where we don’t check our phones, I think that’s really important.
The most rewarding moment in your personal life?
This is a tough one, there has been so many, but more recently I have climbed the highest mountain in the UK, Ben Nevis.
Amazing, well done. Now then, what gives you ultimate career satisfaction?
Seeing others be successful, being able to go part-time in their job, or give up their job altogether.
Which other leading entrepreneurs and leading female pioneers do you also admire and why?
I admire all female pioneers, I look up to so many! Gabrielle Bernstein, Jenna Kutcher, Lori Harder. Women who came from practically nothing and have made a career serving others.
How would you say you are intending to use your voice to educate others?
I KNOW for a fact that most people will choose network marketing to create a 2nd income stream in the future but maybe aren’t ready to hear it right now. SoI’mm focusing on shining my light, adding value and helping others see that they can live their dream life.
What is a good article or book you have read recently?
‘The Energy Bus’ by Jon Gordon.
What does your Podcast playlist look like?
Jenna Kutcher on repeat and Network Marketing Heroes.
How do you measure your terms of success?
I measure my success by the obstacles I am overcoming and by the way I handle situations. I used to think success came from external validation, but for me, I believe the success to be in the journey. I also think it’s in the actions I take and the challenges that I am faced with every day, that make me feel successful.
What does #BEYOUROWN mean to you?
I love it! It means stepping into your true greatness, it’s letting your light shine. It’s not allowing the good opinion of others stop you from blazing your own trail and fulfilling your true potential.
Lastly, what is next for you throughout 2018?
2018 has already been incredible, the best year ever for me in my business. My focus is to promote 8 people to my level by the end of 2018 and to continue expanding my business globally. I and my partner have already climbed 4 mountains this year, one of them being the highest mountain in the UK Ben Nevis, and we are doing 2 events for charity later this year.
