Great to have you, Robin, can you introduce yourself to us an international speaker, best selling author, and what it entails to be a fear strategist?
I have been a life coach, business coach and all these labels, but what I truly do is make a strategic plan with you, to go from wherever you are now using specific tools and strategies, to where you desire to be to live your best, most authentic life. As a molecular geneticist, I can tell you the science of fear and that fear is real and not a choice. What is a choice is how we react to fear, so my goal is to show you how to move through fear for the positives.
What is a typical day like for you now?
My typical day starts with my morning routine of 5 mins quiet time and 10 mins of a yoga workout. Then depending on if I am travelling or in my home office, I usually have client calls, check emails, work on any upcoming pitches, powerpoints, or curriculum.
What 3 tips can apply to our current lifestyles to help us shift and reset our mindset?
- Start with 5 mins every morning and use those 5 mins just for you. I t can be to meditate, exercise or just have a cup of coffee. However ask yourself: “how do I want to feel today and What do I need from today?” Two very important questions to set the tone for the day.
- Schedule you into your calendar! We need to be more aware of our own self-care, so schedule a meeting with you.
- Record yourself a personal message on your cell phone in voice memos saying: “I am powerful and doing the best I can right here and right now.” This is so important because routines are great but sometimes a wrench gets thrown into the day. You want to reset as quickly as possible and hearing your own voice say that you are enough and okay is a great start. I listen to my message sometimes right before I get on stages to speak or have to have a difficult phone conversation.
We love that your mission is to empower women to give themselves permission to speak their authentic truth, but where did the passionate start?
I was the professional people pleaser always doing for everyone and never saying no to anything. Raising my 3 children who I adore, running a house, my husband’s business, pets, sports, etc. I realised that I didn’t know who I even was. I was always referred to as someone’s mother, wife or dog walker. Having a daughter I wanted her to always speak up, which she is one of the most powerful people I know. My epiphany came as I turned 53 and my daughter turned 21. That was the age that my Mom died of cancer and the age I was when it happened. I think it was my wakeup call to figure out my life. Who was Robin Joy Meyers and what legacy did I want to leave behind.
Who is the most influential female powerhouse that you admire and why?
This is a hard question to answer. I think its a tie between Oprah and Ellen Degeneres. There is an authenticity that they both have and a generosity to see women succeed. That is why I do what I do and feel like why my momentum has truly shifted. I feel like I have an obligation to tell my story and be completely raw. There is no question that I will not answer. I have finally sequenced my life and owned my science side and creative side. The scientist in me allows me to share the facts about fear and validate that our thoughts are real. My goal is that now that you know what, let’s change the conversation and move forward.
Congratulations on the success of your book ‘Alone But Not Lonely,’ what was the writing process like for you?
The writing process was very cathartic for me. I made it a goal to turn my book in on my 53rd birthday, so I blocked my calendar for June and July to write. Sure enough, I sent to the publisher on August 11, 2017.
What does #BEYOUROWN mean to you?
#BEYOUROWN means be your true, unapologetic, authentic self which is perfect just as is. Learn to set your boundaries and non-negotiables and trust in yourself.
What can we expect to see from you In the next few years?
I will continue to take bigger stages as well as hope to be on the TED Stage in 2021. My transformational retreats will grow which are only 10 women at a time to amazing places and I will probably host some sort of an international empowerment event in major cities. I would like to be brought into the media as the fear expert.
