Meet Terra Jackson a transformational leader who has the ability to assist us all in getting to the root of our most pressing issues. From body shaming, self-hate and rejection, Terra helps to create a safe space within ourselves to become vulnerable enough to discover the real purpose for our pain and then channeling it to create a life of peace and prosperity for ourselves.
In this interview, we talk about how Terra helps other individuals going through what she once did, find the courage and strength within themselves to love themselves for who they truly are.
Hey Terra, can you talk to us about yourself and your background?
I was born into dysfunction on October 18, 1979, weighing in at 4lbs 0z after my father kicked my mother down a flight of stairs at 8 months pregnant. That in lies my introduction into the world. I fought for my life for approximately two months old until my Mother decided to flee back to her hometown. At the age of 4 I was molested by a teenage babysitter in my neighborhood. At the age of 6, my Father passed away leaving a void in my soul. By the time I was 9 years old my Mother was a full blown crack addict. I lived a terrible existence trying to cope with my mother’s drug addiction until I found alcohol at the age of 13.
I drowned my sorrows in a bottle of Hennessy until I was 30 years old when a Judge in the state of Texas advised I was facing 20 years in prison. This began my journey to finding the queen that I had lost a long time ago. I had been to numerous mental health institutions, hospitals, recovery centers, 12 step meetings as well as the church but I couldn’t tap into the power that only resided within me. In December of 2011, I began my journey to new found freedom.
When did you launch?
December 2013
In 2013, I launched “Respect the Queen” an online women’s empowerment community and boutique. I used my story to assist so many sisters who had faced similar events in life but didn’t know how to tap back into their own power. I’ve used that platform to launch “Terra Jackson Consulting” a personal and professional consulting firm. From there I began to partner with women such as April Gethers to join forces with her to motivate, inspire and empower sisters. I am also the creative genius behind VIP Access, a high-end designer wholesale company that teaches aspiring entrepreneurs how to develop, brand, market and profit running a drop shipping boutique.
How did the incentive come about?
I was facing 20 years in prison. I had to do something different with my life.
What has the journey been like for so far?
It’s been a lot of trial and error. There’s been a lot of heartaches. I’ve been delivered and disappointed. I’ve been at the top and I’ve fallen from grace several times. I’ve been happy and I’ve been suicidal. I’ve seen freedom like I’ve never known it before. It’s been a lot of life lessons that have ultimately been rewarding.
What is your favourite aspect of what you do?
I love to see women have their light bulb moment. When they discover who they really are. When the mask falls off.
How do you feel that by coaching successful people it helps them become more successful?
You help them to see themselves through a clear lens. You assist them in getting gut-level honest. You help them get out of their own way. This empowers them to trust their ability to be successful.
You work with leaders to implement inclusive organisational goals and you find that performance excellence occurs, how do you measure this?
I don’t run my business in true corporate fashion nor traditional business practice. I work with leaders based on energy, vibration, and frequency. I measure them by their ability to tap into their own power and begin to manifest. I know it’s happening when they’re no longer pointing the finger at anyone else. I know it’s happening when they’re accountable. I know it’s happening when they have the ability to be honest about where there’s room for improvement. I know it’s happening when they begin to attract positivity, prosperity, and opportunity within their lives. I know this because they begin to walk in their truth and purpose.
What does success look like to you? Success is never picking up another drink or drug. Success is providing a legacy for my two children. Success is never turning my back on myself nor my dreams. Success is being able to provide a stable and loving environment for my children. Success is waking up every day and living on purpose.
Now, what is on the horizon for 2018?
January 7th, 2018 I embarked on a 12-month tour around the world with April Gethers. We have joined forces to create intimidate dinner parties for women of colour to live, laugh, heal, set goals, tear down walls, build up self-esteem all in the name of sisterhood. The tour takes off in the DMV and on to Atlanta in March of 2018 with a Queen’s Power Trip to Jamaica in September.
Lastly, what 3 tips can you give us to ensure we are optimising our performance as an entrepreneur?
1.Self-care is a divine responsibility. If you do not take care of yourself you will begin to self-destruct in all areas including your business.
2. It’s not your product or service, it’s you! Prospects aren’t buying your product or service. They’re buying into your brand. You are your brand. Stop focusing on the product or service. Start focusing on building great relationships. If you build profitable relationships you can guarantee you will manifest abundance, by this I mean personally, professionally, financially, spiritually, emotionally, mentally and physically.
3. It’s your business. Don’t expect anyone to build it, support it or finance it the way you should.
