How To Start Building An Online Audience When You Are Just Starting

Setting up an online business has never been easier. We have seen a huge increase in the number of online businesses starting up in the last 12 months and it has been one of the go-to options for new mums who know they still want to work, but want it to be flexible around their children and home life.

Due to the amount of online businesses opening, there has also been an increase in the number of online communities. It is one of the most common questions I get – How can I build an online audience to sell to? So, as I took a look at my own spreadsheets and decided on what to talk about today, I thought this would be a great topic to cover as it’s such a common question I get.

When it comes to growing an audience we need to get clear on who these people actually are, and who you actually want to work with. If these people are going to be buying your products and services it makes sense to ensure that they are people you love and would dream of working with.

Here are a few steps to take when you are just starting out to ensure you grow your online audience in a way that will make it a no-brainer for them to take the next steps to become a valued customer.

Who would you like to work with?

Ask yourself who is the person you would be excited to work with? You need to be really clear on this; consider do they go out, where do they shop, what words and phrases do they use? It doesn’t always have to be things such as their ages or even geographic locations it can be their mindsets or traits of those that your service/product might appeal to.

What help do they need?

Be specific as you can with this. The clearer you are on what your dream clients need to help with the clearer you can be on what you offer. Do they need help feeling more positive or getting sales in their business? Never, ever assume what they need help with. Do the research! Once you have your answer to point one you can then ask them how they need help. Use tools such as Google forms or survey monkey to put together a questionnaire, or just simply send a message to ask them. Even if you feel you were once where they are now, back up your assumptions with facts and figures. Start conversations and remember just to be yourself.

Create valuable content

This blog post is proof of using the previous two tips to create valuable content. Upon joining my Facebook Group I ask people two questions to understand where my audience currently is at and to find out what they need help with. Then I place these answers into a spreadsheet so when I go to do my lives I use that spreadsheet to determine what content my audience is looking for, which makes it valuable and a no-brainer to take the next steps or us to work together.
