Thank you for interviewing with us today, can you introduce yourself to us?
I am Lara Doherty a Vision Board Expert, Mindset and Motivation Coach and Wellness Author (The Mighty Book Of Motivation Magic, The Little Book of Journaling and The Little Book of Affirmations).
I am on a mission to change the lives of women by helping them dream big dreams and make them happen, so they achieve their full potential in life and in business.
I have worked with over 400 women since 2018 (age 40+) and helped them go from procrastinating to motivated & excited, overwhelmed to feeling in control, lost to positive & uplifted, anxious & stressed to calm, confused to focused, directionless to a crystal clear vision and low self-esteem to increased confidence.
Can you take us through your journey to where you are now?
I had a wonderfully varied corporate career spanning 30+ years, as well as a work hard play hard super achiever mentality (including a couple of periods of burnout thrown in), so when I got to age 47 and experienced a challenging relationship split, I realised that I didn’t want to live my life like this any more and wanted to have a more meaningful and purposeful life.
So I decided to radically change my life. I started a morning routine, started exercising and eating healthily, lost 3 dress sizes and created my first Vision Board. 4 months later I was facilitating face to face Vision Board workshops running alongside my business development business. Lockdown hit and I took the workshops online and in the first 6 months of lockdown I was doing a workshop every weekend.
Through my fascination of the brain and neuroscience I studied with Dr Sarah McKay, the Neuroscience taking a Neuroscience and Brain Health course during lockdown, as well as qualifying as a Coach and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming). I then wrote my first book, The Mighty Book Of Motivation Magic, which documents the steps I took to change my life in an easy to read book, “the equivalent of 50 self development books in one.” and now run a mindset coaching business which I completely love.
Since starting, have you made any changes to your business model?
Yes, my work used to be all face to face, the majority of my work now is on Zoom. Along the way I have changed my programs to suit demand, developing my 12 week breakthrough program which is transformational..
Have you ever had a mentor? If so how has this benefitted you either personally or professionally?
Yes, I have had a few mentors in the past and currently work with Jo Lott, a brilliant coaching mentor. In fact I talk about the benefits of having a mentor in my book. What my mentors do/did for me was really supported my development and were a valuable resource to answer questions that I wouldn’t know the answers to. I picked their brains and got excellent advice. They kept me motivated and assured that I was on the right track.
What outlets do use for marketing?
Networking, email, referrals, blogging, LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook
What or Who has inspired you most recently?
I love the wonderfully successful duo that is Sarah Blakely of SPANX and her husband Jesse Itzler, the young fashion designer Max, aka Couture to the Max Alexander and Serlina Boyd, Founder of Cocoa Magazine – they all followed their big dreams…and look at them now.
What is the best piece of business advice you have received to date?
Keep your big ideas to yourself for a while…
How do you create an evenly balanced work and personal life?
I make sure to spend a bit of time Sunday evening planning the week ahead and making sure there is something fun in the diary and some self care.
Name a seminal point in your career so far?
The publishing of my first book, The Mighty Book Of Motivation Magic and the rave reviews I have had so far….
What gives you ultimate career satisfaction?
Finally doing something for work that doesn’t actually feel like work and literally lights me up every day..
Are there any leading entrepreneurs or SME leaders that you admire and if so, why?
There is an incredible guy I have just come across on LinkedIn called Cory Lopez-Warfield who is incredibly generous with his time and knowledge. Marie Forleo has been an inspiration to me for a few years as have Jake Ducey, Gabrielle Bernstein, Vishen Lakhiani and Mindvalley and Jim Kwik.
How do you define your own success?
Loving what I do for work while maintaining a great life balance so that I get to spend time with the people I love..
Finally, what can we expect from you next?
My two E-Books were out at the end of 2022, The Little Book Of Affirmations (and how to create your own) and The Little Book Of Journal Prompts (when you don’t know what to write) and I have a couple of other ideas for books, including Vision Board Successes. I am also being led to add healing to my repertoire, so watch this space!
