In our first installment of our 6 part campaign, we present Malia Powers to talk about what it means to her to BE YOUR OWN Woman in the 21st century.

A phrase I live by : You are born into this world as a by-product of your environment – up until the moment you realise that – at which point you can choose to make your environment a by-product of you! As a strong proponent of nonconformity, I assert that there is nothing more paramount than becoming who you are meant to be. I can’t held but notice all the unnecessary pain going on in our world. Not only outwardly in consumerism and the quotidian actions of our judgment-based society, but also inward. Stress, depression, suicide – the majority of Americans are constantly engaging in a heartbreaking battle within their being. Things have to change if humanity is to move forward, we all innately know this, but in order to change, we need to break free from the collective and patterns that have kept humans in bondage to suffering for eons – we need to let go and grow. I aspire to inspire and help raise the collective consciousness of humanity in a positive direction. A shift in awareness of the masses is already taking place – I can’t help but have a burning desire to be a part of it. I want to help, I want to heal. That is my life purpose.

So I guess I should tell you a little bit about myself. I’m born and raised in Honolulu Hawaii, however the majority of my family on my mom’s side lives in France. I grew up speaking French to my mom and English to my dad, thus deeming me proficient in both languages. Growing up in Hawaii was truly a dream. I used to go surfing nearly everyday before and after school, and if I wasn’t at school or in the ocean you could find me hiking barefoot up in the mountains. As far as athletics goes, water-sports were my passion. I became a certified scuba diver at age 11, was a swimmer, water-polo goalie, kayaker, springboard diver, as well as represented my school competitively in surfing and sailing.

Currently, I am a model and student. Just a little over a year ago, I got scouted out by a talent agent when getting my yoga teacher certification at a studio in Honolulu. I had been asked to model when I was younger, but as a tomboy who loved being in nature, dresses and heels were never under my radar of pleasure. Yet, here I was, doing what I love, getting asked to model, yet again. Only difference is this time, I followed through. I figured, well, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take, so why not? Boy was a glad a did! The next thing I know, I’m getting coached how to walk in heels backstage at Honolulu fashion week – my very first runway show!

I hold a growing fascination of curiosity under the scope of a wide range of topics such as quantum mechanics, the universe and cosmos, enthogens, anthropology, holistic healing, psychology, and philosophy. I’ve spent the majority of my life contemplating ways to solidify my identity and reconnect with my authentic self. My open minded views are attributed to the vast array of experiences I have acquired by traveling across the globe. By age 18, I was able to travel across all 7 continents. From the unblemished land of Antarctica to the chaotic streets of Marrakech, I observed diverse realms of human interaction. Although each travel experience uniquely contributed to my outlook on life, my interaction with the the nomadic Massai Mara tribe situated in Kenya was a monumental factor to my development as a free-spirited individual.

They taught me that the primary cause of unhappiness isn’t the situation, but your thoughts about it. The positive essence of these peoples inspired me to reflect on my own habits and views. My introspection and self evaluation led me to the practice of yoga and the acceptation of people as they are. If we look at our innermost desires, we will see our dreams are not so different. We share a common goal – happiness. We tear the world apart looking for joy without ever looking within ourselves.

After graduation high school in 2017, I moved to New York City for my studies and modelling. I must admit, I NEVER thought I’d end up living on the east coast. Anybody who knows me is well aware that I’m a nature fairy who spent every day of her life in the ocean or mountains of my island home. Yet, here I was starting a new life for myself in a completely new world! I love Hawaii, don’t get me wrong, but I knew that in order to move forward in my life and take that next step toward becoming successful and fulfilling my life’s purpose, I knew I had to do something completely different. If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.

To all you ladies out there reading this, I want you to remember : YOU ARE INVALUABLE! There is a lot happening in the world right now, and us woman are playing a big role in pioneering the shift of awareness and social change for the better. In ancient Tantric philosophy, feminine energy moves down and masculine energy moves up.

That’s what happening. So to be your own woman means to get in touch with yourself, that divine feminine essence that resides within you! It is dying to come out, so let it! Embrace your emotional, compassionate and loving aspects that make you the amazing woman you are.

Be your own – And accept others for being theirs. As I mentioned in my introduction, in order to solidify your personal identity and become your truest awesomest self, it is extremely important to accept others. Do not judge others, or even think negatively about others. This will get you nowhere and just leave you disempowered whether that be consciously or subconsciously. Don’t go constantly fishing for complements from others either. We don’t need others to justify our existence. Rather let us contribute to the universal sentience by embracing our true sense of self. Spent time doing what you love with people that you love, this will help you to live an inspired life. When we live an inspired life, we become who we really are.
