#BEYOUROWN MEETS ANDRENA PHILLIPS
KeepMovinwithAndrena founder, master life strategist and transformational speaker Andrena Phillips is helping women transition by rebuilding and developing their own life blueprint. We find out how Andrena is currently using her coaching methods and workshops in a variety of different organisational projects to take women to their next level of living.
Hey Andrena, can you introduce yourself to us?
Hey, it’s your favorite Andrena! I am CEO & Founder of KeepMovinwithAndrena, master life strategist (personal development), transformational speaker and published author.
Can you take us through your journey to where you are now?
I have always been a woman who loves to empower and encourage people along their own life journey, of course, I am not perfect by all means but I am a willing vessel. Life is hard and sometimes along the way you need someone to step in to remind you that it may be hard but it is worth every step you muster. Just like the next person standing, I have been through life’s ups and downs just needing that extra push to propel me to the best version of myself and sometimes the push comes with a heavy experience.
I realised along my journey that you have 2 choices, either you live your life loud or lose your life by wasting time. I decided it was time for me to start living aloud with no apologies. Once I gained insight that you may be broken but you can always reinvent yourself to greater, I made a promise to myself I would live to fullness whilst reaching back to help others get to their greatest level as well.
What is a day in the life of you like as a transformational speaker and life strategist?
The beginning of my day is called “Uninterrupted,” this means the first half of my morning I focus on my own personal time this includes praying, meditating, showing my gratitude, reading and exercising. All uninterrupted, nobody is allowed in this space.
Remember, you can’t serve from an empty well if the well is dry. So I must fuel myself up in order to give others the overflow. After I am finished with my time I network. then I start developing strategies, teaching, and workshops to help my clients in their personal development journey.
Can you tell us about KeepMovinwithAndrena?
Yes, Keepmovinwithandrena was my way of telling the world, life is hard for everybody and there is no exempt but we must get up and keep moving regardless of what life serves us. We can’t stay stuck, we must figure it out and grab hold to the best that awaits. I want the world to know, let’s hold each other hands as we encourage each other by getting up, showing up and grabbing hold of the best life ever.
How are you helping women to transition in rebuilding and developing a life blueprint?
I help women gain clarity on what they desire, assist with implementation strategies for them to execute in their daily living so their life can be what they were asking for. I do this through my life lessons, teaching, strategies, coaching, and speaking.
Can you explore the live and online workshops you offer to your clients, and the teaching methods you use?
Yes, through online courses, YouTube channel, and social media outlets. I have several opportunities for individuals who are ready to take a leap in gaining their best also through 1:1 and group coaching, workshops and DIY online course (180 Campus).
Where can you see yourself within the next 3-5 years?
Travelling throughout the world and still be doing what I love which is to empower and transform as many lives as possible.
How are you planning to expand further?
Proper connections, collaborations and through my works of continuing to educate myself as well will forward me the opportunity to expand. I am open to expanding my territory with the right people who are in the lane of impacting others in a positive way.
Can you tell us what areas you have struggled in professionally?
I would say the beginning. When I made the decision to leap the course, trust the process and go for it was the biggest scariest struggle in the world. We all know how to talk ourselves out of things we desire, want and dream about. We tend to put so much emphasis on how imperfect we are but in reality, we all are imperfect vessels living in our own perfect journey, a journey designed just for your footprints. To top it off we know the first ‘yes,’ to anything life altering is scary but how long will you stay stuck in the struggle before you decide to do something about it? You know how to struggle really looks this time take a chance to see how success looks. Do it scare! I basically did, it scared and learning along the way not regretting any of it.
Yes, I encourage you to do it scared. Have you ever looked at a toddler learning how to walk for the first time? The toddler is scared to let go of their parents, sometimes they cry to resist being on their own but eventually, without any hesitation, the toddler does what? They let go and starts struggling to walk, in the midst of the struggle they fall but they get back up eventually it becomes a steady flow, guess what? Now the toddler is walking.
Life is scary but you have to get up and keep moving, faith not fear. Failure is part of the success but if you never try it how will you know if you can conqueror it? I say even at the beginning of what you decide to do, you need to get past the fear and grab hold of faith, I guarantee you will be grateful you did.
Have you ever had any other mentor? If so how has this benefitted you to grow?
Yes, mentors are a must! I always say be teachable in life. My mentors sharpen me in every way possible. Just remember, the saying that “iron sharpens irons.” Mentors are the sharpener, they are there not only to educate you but to challenge and to sharpen your craft and your journey.
I believe that you should always have someone as a mentor that are several steps ahead of you because it will motivate you to show up greater in your life journey to get you to be present in your own life and will give you that extra push to grab your dreams to start running with. If you don’t have a mentor, then you can learn from anyone. Absolutely, I agree to get a mentor, surround yourself with mentors who will challenge you to show up in your greatness and not allow you to dwell in your weakness.
What outlets do use to market your services?
Social media, marketing, collaborations, networking and the old fashion word of mouth method. It’s always good for your services when you position yourself to be seen and heard at the same time.
Which methods are you using to build your own support network?
Networking is the key to building and it also gains greater insights on what tools can better you.
What do you believe are the common misconceptions of being a life strategist?
This is a great question. Life strategists go through just as much as others do, if we didn’t have the roller coaster of a life we couldn’t educate others on how to get over the obstacles life serves us all. For some reason, people think that speakers, coaches, pastors, parents or bosses don’t endure heartache, pain, failures or disappointments just because we don’t let life lessons stop us but I promise its not true.
As an influential leader, life doesn’t stop, we just handle it differently by punching back. I believe the reason we all have shortcomings is to show the world we are human. No person is greater than the next regardless of what titles, purpose or dreams we may have. Nobody is perfect.
What would you like to see changed for millennials in business?
To do the work, don’t feel entitled and respect the trailblazers before them. At times, millennials today feel a sense of I don’t have to put in the work, just give me what I want and don’t have to respect your struggles even though your struggles kicked the door for our younger generation to walk through. you have been to open up the door for me to walk through.
Any industry comes with consistency, hard work and respects this should not be taking lightly. Millennials can learn from seasoned players and vice versa we all would make this world a full of wisdom, innovation and a shaker if we learn to work with each other.
What is the best piece of advice you have received to date?
“I can. I will. I must” by Eric Thomas. Eric Thomas is really a no excuse you can do it and you must hold your own. I love his tenacity, drive and unapologetic ways of how he teach others if you want it, go get it and don’t make excuses along the way. Life has your hearts desires, you the one who must go get it.
What is the number 1 critical lesson you have learned in your career so far?
Values. If you don’t have any, then do not expect anyone to have any towards what you are doing.
How do you create an evenly balanced work and personal life?
Uninterrupted time. Of course, work hard but play harder. If you want your life to be the best put in the work so you can reap your fruit sooner than later.
The highlight of your career so far?
Every opportunity I get to serve with helping to change peoples lives for the better is my highlight every time.
What gives you ultimate career satisfaction?
When people get the famous “aha” moment. When people realise that at any time they can change their minds to start living greater is satisfaction for me.
What challenges have you seen to have been presented during the growth of your career?
People love the empowerment, inspiration and transformation talks, quotes and actions but when it comes to them actually making the decision to do the work people hesitate. I always say that people want change but they don’t want to do the work.
There is no possible way you can lose weight without making a change, you can’t graduate from school if you don’t do the work, you can’t go from stuck to success without doing the work. If people will make the small efforts to do the opposite of what the usually do and show up for themselves they will be at a greater place in a shorter time if they do the work. Do the work to get the results you one.
Which other leading entrepreneurs and pioneering game changers do you also admire and why?
Eric Thomas, Gary Vee, Tony Robbins, Oprah, Iyanla Vanzant, TD Jakes, my spiritual parents and many more including some of my colleagues that’s in the industry besides me.
To be honest, there are so many, it can be the single mother who takes her last to invest in her business, the homeless man who decided one day to open up a cleaning business, to be honest, my list can go on and on. Lets put it this way, anyone willing to believe in themselves and take the risk is a game changer to me.
How would you say you are intending to use your voice to educate others?
Continuing to use the platforms I am forward to empower, educate and enlighten others to show up for themselves, never quitting.
What is a good article or book you have read recently?
I tend to read several books, 2-3 in a 30-day interval. Here a few I have in rotation currently: ‘The Black Woman Millionaire,’ ‘Emotional Intelligence,’ ‘Queenology, Millionaire Success Habits,’ ‘Behind The Laughter’ (my book) this is my current list.
I love reading its escape as well a self-awareness activity. Remember, leaders are readers. This leader is always diving into a great book.
What does your Podcast playlist look like?
Motivational, business, personal development.
How do you measure your own terms of success?
Showing up every day because this is an opportunity for me to be greater than I was yesterday. My only competition is myself, each day I challenge myself to be more than I was the last 24 hours.
What does #BEYOUROWN mean to you?
I need to be the best me I can be, with no apologies.
Lastly, what is next for you and the KeepMovinwithAndrena movement?
A book launch, upcoming speaking engagements, developing more DIY courses and workshops. I must keep moving in order to make a positive influence in this world, I am here for it all.
