#BEYOUROWN MEETS SAVITHA NANJAPPA

Savitha Nanjappa is a success coach who has dedicated her life to helping women find their full potential and become powerhouses in the workplace and in life. After launching Rae Image Consulting, an image consulting firm and chicandeffortless.com, a lifestyle blog, Savitha is now focussing all her attention on her newest Brand, Success with Savitha.

At Success With Savitha, she aims to raise a community of women who rise above societal obligations to truly succeed, in every sphere of life. With her team at SWS, she is working on creating e-books, blogs, and other resources while also planning local and international workshops. Her premiere offering is the ‘90 Day Success Blueprint’, a 3-month intensive coaching program to help women achieve their goals.

Prior to this, she had a 17-year stint in the corporate world working with brands like ICICI Prudential, Telenor, Novo Nordisk, and Tata Docomo and has an MBA from the T.A.Pai Institute in Manipal.

 

Hey Savitha, can you introduce yourself to us?

I’m an International success coach, an entrepreneur, an ex-corporate career woman, a wife, and a mother to a little 5-year-old. I spent over 17-years in the corporate world working with brands like Airtel, ICICI Prudential, Telenor, Novo Nordisk, and Tata Docomo and hold down an MBA in Marketing and Human Resources. I am also a certified Image Consultant from the Image Consulting Business Institute, India, and Conselle, USA. Having been each one of the roles of a working woman, a stay at home mom and now as an entrepreneur, I feel I understand the challenges women who are in either of these roles face. Because I ‘ve been there and have had the same issues. It is my mission to enhance the lives of as many women as I can. I push my clients to set audacious goals and help to unapologetically achieve them.

I’m grateful to BEYOUROWN for the invitation to be a part of this amazing community of women leaders. I am honored to be able to share my story with so many inspiring women here.

Since launching Rae Image Consulting, can you take us through your journey to where you are now?

In 2016 when I set up Rae Image consulting I was focussed on helping women with all their  Image needs and my 2nd area of focus was Corporate Training. However, I soon found that I needed to do more than help them look good. I wanted to dive deeper. I started to look for answers, this is when I started attending conferences, workshops, watching people I admired online. I did my homework, I worked to figure out what would make me add more value to someone’s life. I also met my own coach at this time and that is how I stepped into the world of coaching.

This March I launched Success with Savitha my new brand and now as a success coach, I focus all my energies enabling, supporting female entrepreneurs and women in the workplace through my coaching and my workshops.

What is a day in the life of you like?

I’m up before 6am most days, I then follow my spiritual practice of 10 minutes of  Meditation, 10 Minutes stretching, writing in my journal. I set my intentions for the day. Post this I get my little five years old out of bed and ready for school. Once she is off to school, I head out to my workout, I take a CrossFit class or go for a quick run. When I’m back I have a healthy breakfast and get ready for work. By 10 am I’m at work. Most days I work out of a coworking space in my city. At work it’s a mix of meeting & coaching clients, working on my content, meeting with my team planning ahead and setting up for workshops. I try and head back around 4pm usually so I can spend time with my daughter when she gets back from school. With her it’s usually posted school activities where I’m driving her to her ballet class, or taking her to the park, followed by early dinner, storytime and bedtime is at 7.30pm.Once she is in bed, about 3-4 times a week I catch up on work. Sometimes I have my coaching calls to take since coach internationally. Post dinner and some quality time with my husband I’m in bed by 11pm. I always read before I fall asleep. Sometimes it can be a little later than 11pm. But since I don’t do well on less sleep so I now have a standing 9pm bedtime for myself every Wednesday.

Weekends are ‘family time’ we catch up on kiddie activities, or we go to brunch, I visit my parents. Some Friday nights I like to step out with my girlfriends. But Sunday’s are purely for my husband and child.

How are you supporting female entrepreneurs and women in the workplace to quantum leap into their next level?

Through my coaching practice and workshops, I offer practical skills that one can use in Business and at the workplace while also helping my clients focus on creating a mindset that is built for success. I blend practical skills and tools with creating habits that enable long-term success while also nurturing the spiritual soul connection for my clients.

Having been in corporate for 17 years, then being a homemaker as well as a stay at home mom and now an entrepreneur, I have experienced all the challenges that women in any of these roles face. My own life experiences help me connect to women from all walks of life.

You are aiming is to raise a strong community of female entrepreneurs who rise above societal obligations to truly succeed, in every sphere of life. with your latest venture ‘Success With Savitha.’ Can you tell us about the concept behind it and how has your mission progressed since launching?

While my earlier brand was Rae Image Consulting was focussed on meeting the image needs of women, doing the work on myself led me to move into the life and business coaching space. Which is where the  “Success With Savitha” brand was born.

The Indian woman faces a lot of challenges. So many women even those who are running successful ventures still need to ask for permission from their male partners to make decisions about their lives. While things may be changing slowly, women are still held back by archaic societal norms about how women should behave, dress or work. Often choices are defined based on what society demands from them. I want to help support women to be able to stand up for themselves, make their own decisions, have a voice and know that they matter and can make a difference in their lives and in those of others.

Since mid-2017 when I started my coaching practice to now I see more and more women resonating with what I have to offer and coming to my workshops. They are reaching out to me online and in person to discuss an idea, a problem or even seek an opinion. All my programs are designed based on feedback from real women on what they need. Even if its one woman, at one time I m happy to make a difference to the life of that one woman.

Who does the team involve behind you at Success With Savitha?

My team involves an intern who helps me things like setting up a landing page, sales funnels, 1 full-time employee who manages my brand and community. I’m also supported by a graphic designer who works with me on a retainer and a Digital Marketing strategy team who meet with me twice a month and work to uplevel my brand & marketing strategy, all my content and help plan my business strategy. I also have 2 mastermind partners who support me in keeping my focus on my business. 

I could not, of course, do this with the support of my staff at home like my nanny, my housekeeping staff. My parents also help as does my husband.

Where can you see yourself within the next 3-5 years?

I see myself running a multi-million dollar business on a global platform coaching internationally, speaking on stage regularly, traveling globally, living a healthy and joyful life with my family and building a community of inspiring women and able to support them to grow successful businesses.

What strategies do you have in place when looking at the expansion of Success With Savitha?

  1. Consistently Invest in  Learning – One of the things I did early on when started
  2. my business, was to invest in myself. I do so extensively, I get coaching, go to seminars, take courses, keep myself well informed.
  3. Having a clear Vision – I have a clear vision for where I want to go to my Business,
  4. how I see my life shaping up and what I need to make me happy. I write vision statements every year and I’m looking at it almost every day to see I’m on track.
  5. I will be launching group programs in Dec. I also plan to launch a podcast, create
  6. a membership site and plan International retreats

 

Can you tell us what areas you have struggled in professionally?

I have had many struggles and failures. One of them was not being able to say No especially in my corporate career which meant I took on too much work, I was also a people pleaser so that added to my inability to say no, and it led to a lot of stress and being overworked for a time. Until

I realised what I was doing. Dealing with failure was another area I struggled with. I grew up in a family where doing well and succeeding meant everything, failing was considered terrible. So I didn’t know how to handle any kind of failure. It damaged my confidence and made me undermine my own abilities. I took failing very badly. Today I’ve done the work on myself where I am disappointed when I fail but it drives me to work harder and do better. I don’t think of giving up at all.

Have you ever had any other mentor? If so how has this benefitted you to grow?

I have a  coach who I work with and she is the best thing to have happened to me. Everything I am in my business today I owe to her. I have learned to hone my business skills, my coaching and my confident approach to life thanks to investing in a coach and mentor.

What outlets do use to market Success With Savitha?

Instagram is where it’s all happening for me. But I also use Facebook, emails to my list, Linkedin and Facebook ads to market

Which methods are you using to build your own support network?

As a part of a coaching program that I am on, I have access to and have built good relationships with other coaches across the globe. This support network has helped me immensely from helping have the confidence to go live on Facebook to giving me a ton of advice on my business.

I also make sure to nurture my staff at home and focus on training and building an A-team at Success with Savitha so they can enable me to grow.

I’m a huge believer in “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”

What do you believe are the common misconceptions about being an entrepreneur?

That it is not too difficult. Being unprepared for the challenge of running a business. Treating it like a hobby. Not having thought out the idea well enough. Also not being clear on what the target market is and who the ideal client is.

What would you like to see changed for millennials in business?

Staying focused. Not quitting too soon. Feeling like everything is too hard. Staying with the process. But also knowing that success is a marathon and doesn’t happen overnight. Doing the work and mostly stop trying to make it about how great your life is on social media.

What is the best piece of business advice you have received to date?

Don’t make money the only reason why you do what you do. Think about how you can be of service to your client and the money will come in.

What is the number 1 critical lesson you have learned in your career so far?

Stay in your lane and keep your focus on your business. 

How do you create an evenly balanced work and personal life?

While I allow myself a certain degree of flexibility and know that Balance is dynamic I’m also super organised. I follow a schedule and stick to my calendar 95% of the time.

I know what my priorities are and at the beginning of the week like a Sunday I will put down my to-do list into my calendar. As a coach, my calendar is planned 2 weeks ahead. But this is how my week looks. On Mondays, I work from home and that is the day I work on all my content. I don’t schedule any meetings or coaching for Mondays. On Tuesdays I work on my marketing like my social media calendar, I sit with my team, plan out our promotions and discuss strategy, the outlook for the week etc. On Wednesdays, I do my facebook lives and discovery sessions, client calls, review calls.

Thursdays are either coaching or I catch up on content work, it’s a quieter day for me. Fridays are usually the days I’m either coaching or conducting my workshops so its super packed and busy. I work late on Fridays. two Saturdays a month, my calendar is open for either coaching or workshops.

In between, I plan ample time with my family. Yes some weeks are busy and I’m challenged for time for myself but I don’t beat myself up about it. I course correct and simply get better at scheduling. I do work lesser hours during school vacations as I want to be able to go on a holiday with my child or do some fun things with her.

Do I have some failures, of course? Do I give myself a break? All the time. But it’s a well-planned schedule that actually allows me to be free.

The highlight of your career so far?

Being invited by my peers and experienced coaches in my field to be a part of their panel discussions, to be a  mentor on their programs or even be a mastermind partner. Which is recognition and acknowledgment that I am making a valuable contribution in this space.

What gives you ultimate career satisfaction?

When I see my clients doing well, thriving and creating wildly successful lives and businesses.

What challenges have you seen to have been presented during the growth of Rae Image Consulting?

The biggest challenge was figuring out how to find clients. I really had no idea, where to begin looking for clients and how to make a connection. Yes, word of mouth counts but I used to have a huge fear of selling so making a pitch or asking to be paid for the work I do was a something I shied away from. So I ended up doing a lot of work for free. Things didn’t change until I really became clear about who my ideal client was and also until I worked on my confidence so I could tell people to pay me for my work.

The second thing was keeping faith and confidence in what I had to do offer. A lot of people would tell me how I wouldn’t make it or tell to full-time time training job or tell me I wasn’t good enough to be an image consultant, I didn’t have the looks etc. It was very challenging to continue trying to believe in myself and my abilities to go ahead and  pitch my offerings, programs, and packages.

Which other leading entrepreneurs and pioneering game changers do you also admire and why?

I admire Marie Forleo, Lisa Nichols, Gabby Bernstein, and Carrie Green. I feel they are all leading the way for women like me to do the work we do. They support, enable and nurture other female entrepreneurs. I also admire Tony Robbins for his drive, his work ethic and his contribution to this world. 

What is a good article or book you have read recently?

‘My Morning Routine: How Successful people start every day inspired.’ It was interesting to read about the routines and morning habits of successful people from varied fields and how they indulge in self-care.

What does your Podcast playlist look like?

How do you measure your own terms of success?

First of all, I measure my work by simply asking how many people I got to serve in a month, how many people did I encourage, motivate and inspire to action.

The second measure is in the actual business numbers, I measure all my stats – like social media numbers to clients booked and workshops spots sold. The income that I made.

The third measure is how much content have I put out there either through free resources or paid content. I am giving my people enough content to help them and support them. Then finally, I ask myself if I am truly happy doing what I do. Am I happy with my work, have I really added value to people? I listen to feedback from clients and team members. And lastly is my family happy and healthy or are they feeling left out, am I too busy for them.

What does #BEYOUROWN mean to you?

It means to stand up for myself, and not expect anyone else to save me. To authentically be who I am and when I’m doing exactly that, is when I will find my tribe.

Lastly, what is next for you throughout 2018 with Rae Image Consulting and Success With Savitha?

Our first ever international workshop, ‘The Success Mindset Masterclass’ which will be happening in Bali, Indonesia this December! It is an exclusively curated experience for female entrepreneurs who want to transform their lives. A power-packed getaway that allows women to be part of a high vibe environment, travel, and ultimately build a community of successful and empowered entrepreneurs.

Also, ‘The Life Design Project,’ a 5-week online global program in which entrepreneurs discover how to design their life, have clarity of purpose and make their dreams a reality. We want to play a role in supporting women in business as much as possible as we do everything in our power each day to impact their lives!
