Revival Body Care was launched in Spring of 2015, in Nicole Dzurko’s home kitchen. Her passion for a healthy lifestyle, beginning with mindfully selecting Organic, Non-GMO, Clean foods for her family, can be seen in all aspects of their lives.

Revival Body Care is committed to using ingredients that are sustainable, ethically sourced, fair-trade, cruelty-free and organic, to ensure healthy, nourished skin, lips and hair without the use of chemicals, toxins, artificial colours, fragrances or fillers. Daily skincare routines should be rejuvenating and a special time to treat yourself in the midst of hectic day-to-day schedules. Using Revival Body Care is like going to the spa by simply stepping foot into your bathroom!

Thank you for joining us Nicole, can you tell us a little bit about your background story and how it reflects who you are and what you do today as the founder of Revival Body Care?

I am a mother of 3 daughters, with a degree in Interior Design. I have a love for beautiful things and have a great ability to take a blank slate and see the finished vision to fruition. This has helped me tremendously in building a brand from the ground up, by myself!  I’ve also always been really conscious of the foods we eat and try to eat as clean as possible! As a mother of daughters, I began to pay more attention to the ingredients in our personal care products and was blown away with what I was finding. After researching and finding out that the average American woman uses 11 personal care products daily multiplied by the 100’s of unsafe/toxic ingredients being applied directly to our skin, I knew I needed to take matters into my own hands.

Revival started in my home kitchen in 2014 with a collection of All Natural Body Scrubs. Fast forward 5 years and Revival is a fully comprehensive collection of Skin, Lip, and Haircare. Revival has shipped all over the globe, can be found in over 200 shops throughout the United States and the Revival Flagship store opened in early 2019.  I started this company with a vision to not only provide gentle, yet effective, products created using only the finest quality certified organic, fair-trade, 100% vegan ingredients, but to use my platform as a brand owner to provide motivation, education, and empowerment in regards to self-care and wellness.

Revival Body Care is a line of all-natural skin, lip and hair care using only fair-trade, sustainable and 100%vegan ingredients. How are you making this cost-effective to run, and what market research did you study to ensure the success of its launch into this market segment?

I did significant product research and continue to as the year’s pass. I am so passionate about using clean, natural, QUALITY ingredients. I am also absolutely dedicated to the sustainability aspect of running Revival. From sourcing only the best ingredients to housing my products in glass vessels, to how products are packaged and shipped.

With the launch of the Revival flagship, I was able to implement Revival Recycles, a program where customers bring empty Revival product back to the shop and earn points for it! Glass is endlessly reusable and recyclable, so we re-utilize that, and I invested in a No Waste beauty box, where any used pumps and lids are re-purposed, being that they cannot be placed in a recycle bin. Are my costs higher? Absolutely. But I believe that it is worth every penny to provide the best for my customers and for Mother Nature. I still have incredibly healthy profit margins and am able to price my products at an accessible price point.

How is Revival Body Care funded?

Revival is self-funded by me and has run solely on business revenue. I started Revival with $500 and from day one this was my only and full-time job and focus. As a single mother of 3, I knew that my vision for this brand was needed and achievable and necessary. I am motivated to make Revival as successful as possible, as it is my primary source of income. As we approach 5 years in business, I am so proud to see the continued revenue growth each year.

I did, however, win the first Female Entrepreneur Summit Funding Initiative in late 2019, which provided Revival with a $20,000 cash infusion. This allowed me to purchase a piece of equipment and invest in marketing opportunities/trade shows in 2020.

What is the company structure of Revival Body Care?

Revival started as a Sole Proprietorship, advanced to an LLC and currently in the process of configuring as an S Corp, as the business and revenue continue to grow.

How are you looking at competing alongside bigger brands to remain with a permanent footprint?

I think the thing that allows Revival to stand out against some of the bigger brands is human connection. I have built a loyal following, lovingly referred to as the #RevivalTribe. I speak to my customers in my voice, vs some large marketing firm.

I provide more of an experiential offering vs just a pretty package, through education and is available to directly communicate with customers. I believe that people as a whole, want to feel connected and not just looked at as a dollar sign. I offer weekly events at my storefront called Revival Retreats, where I gather groups of women, educate them on the Revival line of products, allow them to use them first hand so that they get the maximum benefits at home and to express the importance of self-care. And most importantly, the products are amazing and provide superior results. Revival is more than a pretty face. Revival is a lifestyle.

How you are balancing the work/life strife?

It’s a daily and unrelenting task, but there is no way around it. I try to integrate my girls into the business as often as possible. I think it’s so important for them to see that they can accomplish their dreams, build a successful business and have a loving, hands-on mother/child relationship at the same time.

I also teach them self-care, through example, the importance of eating well, taking care of our bodies both physically and mentally. It’s important for me to set the example that you can’t pour from an empty cup. And it benefits no one when you are running on fumes. It’s imperative to implement time to regroup and take care of YOU! This doesn’t have to cost a penny. It can be something as simple as a walk around the block and in our house, lots of skincare routines! Regardless of how self-care time is spent, that time really helps to balance the work/life strife.

What platforms are you using as marketing tools for Revival Body Care?

Social media has been a primary source of marketing for Revival Body Care. I established Revival on all outlets initially and now primarily focus on Instagram and Facebook. It’s such a valuable free tool that is a must in today’s’ world. It’s allowed me to reach customers all over the world and has presented me/Revival with countless opportunities. I’ve recently delved into paid Facebook ads and am manoeuvring through that process, as it really allows such specific targeting opportunities. I also have a newsletter that goes out through the year and I’ve been so fortunate to speak on a number of panels, podcasts, TV appearances, and magazine articles.

Do you currently use any apps or tools to help the functionality of Revival Body Care?

I run my e-commerce and POS through Shopify, which in itself has a slew of apps to offer optimal functionality. It’s been a really wonderful, user-friendly system to use. For my customers, the Revival Body Care APP is available for both Apple and Android users, which makes shopping Revival as easy as a few taps of their fingertips!

Who is the most influential female entrepreneur within the beauty industry that you admire and why?

There are so many inspiring founders/female entrepreneurs in the beauty industry, but it’s been pretty incredible to see how far and how quickly Emily Weiss of Glossier has grown! She’s really disrupted the market and created a hugely successful and recognizable brand. And she’s only 32!

If you could tell your 18-year old self a solid piece of advice, what would it be?

Interesting question. I had my first daughter at 19 years old (she’s now 20 and I’m turning 40 in March)! Having my first child so young forced me to grow up quickly, but never stopped me from accomplishing my goals.

I suppose I’d take the direction of what advice would I tell my 18-year-old daughters. Always listen to your gut, I promise it won’t fail you. Do not settle and do not stay thinking things will change, if there’s no willingness or effort to change. Never rely on anyone to financially take care of you. At the end of the day, you don’t ever want to be in a situation where you feel stuck.  Don’t just dream…actually do…with hard work and dedication, you can accomplish all of your goals! Life goes by so fast. Travel, explore, try new things, and ultimately do what brings you joy! and, you’re never too old to do what you love!

What does #BEYOUROWN mean to you?

#BEYOUROWN means be true to yourself. Take care of yourself, your needs and desires. Ultimately, self-care isn’t selfish. This will allow you to be the best that you can be for others around you!

Can you tell us a little bit more about that and what the rest of 2020 looks like for you with Revival Body Care?

Revival started off with a trip to Los Angeles for the Indie Beauty Expo. We’ve set a goal of doubling our current wholesale stockists and continuing to ramp up direct to consumer sales. In the Cleveland area, we will be hosting ever-popular #RevivalRetreats while also collaborating with like-minded businesses in the wellness realm, to host a variety of workshops. Look for us at trade-shows across the USA over the course of the year. The 2020 financial revenue trajectory is slated to be above and beyond years past, positioning us for continued growth and scaling of Revival as we surpass 5 years in business and start planning for the next 5 years!
