You do not want to be carrying more excess weight than you need to while pregnant because this is not good for you and it is certainly not good for your baby. Due to the fact however that your hormones are up and down and sometimes you just don’t know which way is up and which way is down, you may find yourself comfort eating and so you will be putting on excess weight that you don’t need. There are certain parts of your pregnancy when you will feel more hungry than normal and the thing to understand here is that this is perfectly normal.

Many mothers say they are more hungry during first trimester and so this is when they find it most difficult not to keep putting food into their mouth. You’re going to experience cravings and while you do need more calories for you and your growing baby, it is important that you don’t take it to excess. It is because your sugar levels are dropping and particularly late in the evening and early in the morning. Your baby is telling you that it wants more food and it is your job to provide him or her with the nourishment that they need. There are a few things that you can do to help deal with your pregnancy hunger pangs and the following are just some of those.

  • Drink lots of liquids – It is important that you keep yourself hydrated ball for yourself and for your growing baby as well. You should always be trying to drink low-calorie drinks and particularly water. It may be tempting to drink some sugary liquids but this is just going to add more calories to your daily intake and it will actually spike your sugar levels and encourage you to eat more. You need to keep your stress levels down, so stay properly hydrated.
  • Eat a healthy diet – This is good advice when you’re not pregnant and so it is even more important when you are. Fibre is an incredibly important thing to include in your food and so drive as much fruit and vegetables as you can. It should always be fun if you consume fresh food all the time and avoid processed food altogether.
  • Make a plan – You are still going to experience hunger pangs throughout the day and so you will be visiting your refrigerator and cupboards more often than before. This is why it is so important to make a plan about the right kind of food that you want to have stocked in these facilities. If you are reaching for more calories every single day, you’re putting something into your body that is healthy.
