Most of us will all agree that if there was one key to success, that would be consistency; it’s the most important factor in our growth both personally and professionally. Of course, consistency is not something that everyone can easily achieve: it takes self discipline which generally stems from very clear long term and short term goals and even clearer reasons behind those goals.
It is no secret that often times, it’s easier to give up on our goals than to push through the challenges on our way. That’s why establishing solid, sustainable motivating routines in our daily habits is a priority. They will allow us to stay grounded and keep our focus on the path ahead and on what actions are required of us each step of the way. Being extremely present with the deepest motivations behind our goals makes all the difference. Here are the 5 top benefits that come from digging deep into our deepest why’s and motivations:
It keeps you present with the bigger picture so not to get too caught up in the small stuff: whenever you feel stuck overthinking smaller detail of business or life, you are able to remind themselves of why we are in it in the first place and that will immediately allows you to expand your perspective and move on from anything that you know you won’t even remember a few months or years down the line. It of course doesn’t always happen in an instant but it is certainly a process that gets quicker as you practice it and is always facilitated by your deepest motivations, goals and values.
It keeps you motivated and inspired when faced with rough patches and when things get tough. When facing a challenge that feels greater than a mountain to overcome, you can take a step back and come back to reflect on why you are doing what you are doing, which always ends up re-energizing you and inspires you to think creatively on how to overcome it. Without specific set goals and without self discipline, what often happens is that whenever you get caught up in the mechanisms of survival and fear, your greatest thinking gets clouded and inaccessible; it is a vicious cycle you are generally able to break by coming back to your bigger goals and deepest motivations.
It makes it easier for you to decide and choose what aligns with your values and what doesn’t. If something doesn’t sit well alongside your core values, you don’t even have to waste a minute contemplating whether you should invest time and energy in it. That’s because you have already deeply reflected and figured out what you want and what you need in order to make it happen. You move on easily and with no regrets or second thoughts. You never get tempted to invest money or time in ventures you are unsure of because you know that if your heart is not in it, your mind will not work at its best.Â
It makes it easier for you to attract the right people to partner with: team members, clients and business associates. This is, of course, not to say that you should only surround yourself with people who value all and only the same things as you. You can learn, grow and expand by surrounding yourself with many different people. However, when it comes to certain projects or relationships, you believe an alignment in core values is necessary to reach all mutual goals without too much effort; that’s when being very clear on what matters to you makes all the difference.
It also makes it easier to identify when your work or life are out balance so you can come back to yourself quickly and effectively. This is a priceless point that you can benefit from very often. As soon as you start feeling stressed, overwhelmed or resentful, you can make an inventory of how you have been spending your time in the previous weeks and generally it always boils down to not having invested enough time in the self care activities that are fundamental to you. You can then regroup your thoughts and make sure to plan differently in the next weeks, to restore the balance. You know that your work can only but benefit from them feeling like your best self.
If you haven’t spent time identifying your why, it is really important that you start doing so and share your findings with those close to you in your communities. You’ll be positively surprised by the amazing conversations that will stem from this exercise and even more so, the amazing energy that will flow through you and your business as a result.
