Whilst growing up, Juvahn was heavily influenced by her mother’s love of Motown, soul and jazz music. So when she began performing it was at jazz and speakeasy venues around Australia. Then in 2014, Juvahn decided she would focus her energy and songwriting skills on her original projects.

Juvahn collaborated with good friend and chart-topping producer Divy Pota to create the highly anticipated EP “Bullet” which will be released sometime in 2016.

Can you share your journey with us so far Juvahn?

I grew up in a household where music would be playing at all hours of the day. My mum would play Motown, soul and her favourite 90s pop songs and I would always sing along  & dance to whatever song was playing on the stereo. That strongly influenced me and I started singing at a very young age.

What is the story behind your journey into the music industry?

The writing also started at a young age but I would write poetry, it was my way of expressing myself and outlet for whatever problems I was facing whilst growing up.

What motivated and inspired you to become a singer-songwriter?

I didn’t think music was something I would pursue professionally and it was actually a few of the teachers at my school that encouraged me to pursue it. I recall my English teacher asking me what I wanted to study at college I told her I was unsure and she told me that she loved my writing and voice and that I needed to share that gift with the world.

It took some time to overcome my insecurities, as I grew up a very shy and awkward girl and I had many self-esteem issues. I actually have goosebumps now looking back at how far I’ve come in my personal growth. It really does start with just truly loving yourself first.

What are you learning regarding the music industry itself?

When I entered the music industry I had no idea where to start. It took me awhile to find the right producer to work with. It’s really important when starting out that you find the right producer to work with. The right producer will enhance your talents and help develop you as an artist. There is some vulnerability in creating music so finding the right producer is crucial.

Your music is strongly influenced by Motown, Jazz, and Soul, what is the particular reason for this?

As a woman in an industry which is predominantly run by men it’s crucial to have a thick skin and not tolerate any belittlement. You need to believe in your gifts, your mind and strength and to also separate belittlement from constructive criticism. You can’t take anything personally.

You collaborated with Divy Pota, who else would you love to work with and why?

I’m very grateful to have collaborated with Divy Pota. That was my first music project its crazy to think it was only 2 years ago that I stepped into a recording studio and made my first song. I would love to work with Ben Billions, I really love the music he has produced for The Weekend and Beyoncé.

What are the common misconceptions about singer-songwriters?

I think the common misconceptions about singer/songwriters is that there can be an “overnight success” it never is. It’s years of working hard at your craft.

What outlets do use to market yourself?

I use Instagram, Spotify, Facebook, Soundcloud, YouTube.

Who do you find most influential within the music industry?

SIA, I’m so inspired by her music and unique artistry

What about any challenging times you have had to overcome? When were they and how did you learn to overcome them?

Moving to America to pursue music has been extremely challenging. I’ve been here for a year now and the combination of moving to a different country plus learning the ins and outs of this industry whilst being homesick has been difficult.

What helps is face timing my mom every day, staying centered and reminding myself of my purpose and most importantly prayer and meditation.

Lastly what projects do you have coming up for 2018 for you?

I will be releasing new music, music videos and focused on promoting my brand.
