Krisha Avalon graduated in 2002 with a masters in acupuncture from NIAOM in Seattle, WA. At that time, not everyone knew what acupuncture was. Her family sure didn’t. Several said, “That’s not a career.”

After graduation, Krishna moved to Telluride, CO and began my career in a resort spa, treating women with facial rejuvenation acupuncture, hormone imbalances, stress, and pain management. In addition, she saw patients in a local clinic in private practice. Krishna’s practice immediately grew. Both locations kept me very busy. She was so in love with the medicine and the results patients were getting that she often saw patients seven days a week. Being new to the practice, this was how Krisha became trusting of my skills very quickly.

Krishna came upon Reiki initiation during my time in Telluride and was attuned to the master level within my first year as an acupuncturist. Krisha instantly saw a powerful shift in my sessions with patients and was able to take the trust of my skills to another level. She began to connect very clearly to a higher frequency, or spirit, that flowed through me freely. I had never known how to trust myself before this time. But reiki changed that for me.

Krishna‘s acupuncture training combined with Reiki and sound is a combination that sends patients to deep places. Having a full schedule of patients, now for 16 years, has given me plenty of practice fine-tuning my skills and finding a level of mastery within them.

From Telluride, my path led me to other beautiful places including Chicago, IL and for the past decade Portland, OR. My colleagues would always ask if she was afraid to leave a thriving career to start all over again somewhere new. But Krishna’s been able to create a rich practice wherever she is.

Krishna’s connection to spirit is something she continue to be grateful for and prioritise. Intuition has become my superpower. For those of us who have identified as empaths, it is most important that we know how to stay committed and connected to our own energy. This is now part of what she shows others how to do.

Part of the way she guides people back to themselves is by teaching tools to purify one’s own energy and reconnect to the inner source. Clearing old programming and limiting belief systems, the stories we have lived that are no longer who we are, and the energy we carry that doesn’t belong to us. Krishna’s learned these tools for herself. And now she teaches others.

It is great to have you with us, Krishna! Can you tell us a little bit about your own journey and your career in acupuncture?

Acupuncture was my first true love in this life. The first thing I ever committed myself to without any doubt. I started school before most people knew what acupuncture was. When it was still illegal in some states. I was a renegade, ha! I’ve been in practice 17 years now. While I still facilitate magic every single day offering this gift of medicine, I am bursting at the seams with growth. Growing into other healing modalities and embodiment coaching. More full spectrum work with the people who come to me.

You began professionally training in 1999 when you committed to acupuncture school at the age of 24. In 2002 you then graduated with an M.A. in Acupuncture from Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Seattle, WA. Can you tell us about this and what you have taken away from that experience that you still apply to?

Being a practitioner is more natural to me than anything. I still love acupuncture so much. Loving what we do is key to remaining radiant and enjoying life.  It also has made nearly effortless for me to create thriving practices in the many places I’ve lived in. I do believe, however, that we get comfortable after doing what we love for so long that we need to allow ourselves to grow and step outside the comfort zone. Which is where I am now.

This training combined with Reiki, what is Reiki and what are the common misconceptions associated with it?

Reiki is universal energy that we are all connected to. Through the process of attunement, one is able to receive and channel this energy in what is typically felt in an obvious way. If there were misconceptions about reiki, I would say that there is no regulation of it. There is no licensing board. One doesn’t learn ethics or professional boundaries before becoming a practitioner. So anyone could call themselves a reiki master. It doesn’t mean you should choose them as your practitioner. For me, Reiki has been a very obviously powerful healing tool that helps my patients relax deeply and feel more clear. I attune others to reiki level 3, the “mastery” level. But I also teach grounding tools, creative visualization and protection tools during my reiki classes, to teach others how to keep energy clear, for both practitioner and recipient.

How you are balancing the work/life strife?

I see patients 3 long days a week and get outside as much as possible during the other days. I take care. I commit to my inner journey and healing practices. I vacation. I travel. I sleep.

What platforms are you using as marketing tools for your treatments/offerings?

I do zero advertising. My entire practice is based on referral or maybe 20% of people who find me on social media and the internet.

Do you currently use any apps or tools to help the organisation of your day?

It took me a long time to cross over to online scheduling. But I schedule so much of my stuff online when I go see people. I finally surrendered and started using Schedulicity. Which has mostly been seamless.

The best lesson learnt throughout life so far?

To trust me. To listen to my intuition. To say no when I need to.

What does #BEYOUROWN mean to you?

To be who I am. There is only one me.

What does 2020 look like for you?

2020 looks like so much growth. It feels like expansion into the full expression of my gifts and offerings. It feels limitless, actually. And it’s taken me this long to get here. It feels like freedom from many layers and beliefs that had been holding me back and in hiding. I’ll be creating some online classes that people have been asking me for, for years. More breathwork gatherings. More intentional women gatherings. More ritual work. All things coming together. It feels really beautiful.
