The Law Firm of Nasreen Alissa was established in 2018 and is one of the few law firms in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia that is led by a Saudi female lawyer.

Can you talk to us about your boutique law firm based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and your professional journey so far?
I opened my law firm in 2018. I was working as an associate for 5 years at an international law firm. I was the only woman there. The reason I opened my law firm is that I realised it is a good time for women in KSA, especially since the 2030 vision has women empowerment in part of its vision and I also realised there are no corporate law firms in Saudi Arabia that are led by Saudi woman, so I figured it would be a good idea to venture on my own. I took the risk and succeeded.
What is your most favoured aspect of what you do?
Technology law. I have 2 mobile apps.
You are really passionate about female empowerment and helping women to understand their legal rights in courts and family law matters such as custody of children, divorce, and alimony. Can you talk us through both the application, and consultation process itself?
The mobile application is the first legal app and one of a kind in the GCC region. It offers free legal information and free consultations.
What has been the biggest barrier you have faced as a woman working in the law field?
Gender barriers at work along with gender barriers in the field itself.
What are the current conditions and working environments for women in your industry, and what would you like to see changed?
A lot of the current conditions that I would like to see changed are focused mainly on litigation and family law. I would like to see more attention given to the tech law industry as well as having it taught in law schools.
Biggest lesson learned so far professionally?
To always have a mentor.
Which 3 software tools or platforms do you currently use to enhance your efficiency?
Simple tools such as Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.
Lastly, what does 2021 look like for you?
We strive in building and maintaining a strong reputation in the legal industry. We achieve the right balance between international best practice and local knowledge. In 2021 I look to expand my law firm as it stands whilst focusing on tech law.
