#BEYOUROWN MEETS O’SHEA WILLIS

CEO & founder O’Shea Willis of GLO Guidance, (an acronym for Glow, Learn and Own), has built an online community that exists to educate and redefine self-love and self-care for all women who are on their journey to self-discovery. Her aim is to create a new reality for women so that they are able to grow personally and professionally through our online resources, courses, and guides.

Hey O’Shea, can you introduce yourself to us?

Hey, it’s O’Shea! I am CEO & Founder of GLO Guidance, where I work as a mindset and transformation coach. I provide women with highly valuable coaching and resources, to enable them to discover their authentic inner confidence and prepare them to announce their unique presence to the world.

Can you take us through your journey to where you are now?

I have always enjoyed empowering people to be the best version of themselves, even at times where I found it difficult myself. For a long time, I struggled with depression and had created a habit of self-sabotage and just negative energy. After almost losing my scholarship at my university, due to my struggles with my mental health, I was faced with the ultimatum of going to therapy for months (which was getting me nowhere), or taking matters into my own hands. I decided that in three months time I could either have gone to therapy once a week and possibly gotten a breakthrough, or that I could work hard every day and ensure myself that I come back stronger. I decided to trust myself.

I created a plan by dissecting my life into categories that I saw fit. I knew that I needed to build my confidence and understand who I was, so I made a plan to master my self. I knew that I needed a better way to manage my life and stay organized to prevent myself from repeating past mistakes, so I made a plan to balance my life. I knew that I needed to re-evaluate my goals for my career and take more practical steps to be more well-rounded, so I made a plan to build my brainpower. Lastly, I knew that while all of these things were going to be important for

my growth, it would be difficult for me to stay on course if I didn’t understand what made me unique and how to keep improving the characteristics and mannerisms that would take me far in life. I created a plan to define what kind of woman I wanted to be, and how I was going to become her. Ultimately, this became known as creating my signature. GLO Guidance is about glowing, learning and owning. Glowing is about recognizing your inner glow and never letting it be dimmed. Learning is about deciding who you want to be and taking the steps to become that person. Owning is about being consistent confident and recognising that this life is about your journey and only you can walk it.

Self-love and self-care are two different things, how are you teaching women to love themselves emotionally not just physically?

I start by asking women if they feel that they are taking care of themselves. The typical response is yes, but once they reveal how, it becomes clear whether or not they understand the differences within the dimensions of self-care. Often women respond with activities that they have done, like taking a warm bath or meditating. While these are two great things to do, it doesn’t have much effect on your being if you have not accepted yourself.

There are 5 dimensions of self-care, and just like with anything in life, you want to try to achieve a balance amongst them all. In order to achieve this balance, and to be authentically satisfied, you must first take care of your emotional self. I recommend doing these 3 things if you struggle with loving yourself.

  1. Practice self-inquiry and positive self-talk on a daily basis.
  2. Determine what makes you happy and what makes you feel confident.
  3. Elevate your criteria for a good life by holding yourself to a higher standard.

For instance, if you’ve had a rough day, don’t just think “Oh I’m going to go home and take a nice relaxing bath,” and then go home, take your bath, and then go about your evening. On your way home consider why you’ve had a bad day. Ask yourself why you feel the motions that you do. Determine what you could have done differently if anything. Ask yourself questions to determine how you can spin the situation in a positive manner. Then consider what will elevate your mood and make you happy.

Could you give us motivational 3 tips for us entrepreneurs to improve our mindset?

  1. Counter your negative thoughts with positive self-talk, followed by logic.
  2. Set positive intentions for the day (Tell yourself that you will have a good day and even consider the many reasons why you will).
  3. Allot time each day to give yourself time to just be in the moment with yourself (no noise, no distractions).

Where can you see yourself within the next 3-5 years?

I will be traveling throughout the world without a doubt. I plan to travel and reach women and students all around the world to educate them on the journey of self-development and empower them to be more proactive in planning their life.

What strategies do you have in place when looking at the expansion of GLO Guidance?

My company expands as I continue to learn and experience life. I will continue to seek opportunities to collaborate and learn from others along my journey. With the launch of Women Who GLO, I will open the doors for more women to have this opportunity to make self-development their priority.

Have you ever had any other mentor? If so how has this benefitted you to grow?

I have had mentors my entire and life and may I just say that if you don’t have one now, change that! My mentors have helped me to be more clear on my goals and make more practical decisions. They’ve been my cheerleaders, but also my coaches and have taught me the valuable lesson that there is always room to grow.

I was always taught that when it comes to specific decisions, to take advice from those who are on the same path as you but are well ahead of you. Seek the advice of those that are in a position to help you and you’ll notice more confidence in your decisions and more clarity regarding your path. Yet, never fail to recognize that you can learn something from anyone! Accept that you don’t know everything and remain open to learning more.

What outlets do use to market GLO Guidance?

I use social media on a daily basis. Networking.

Which methods are you using to build your own support network?

Networking! Whether it’s online or in person I am always looking to meet new people and learn more from them!

What would you like to see changed for millennials in business?

I would love to see more grit and collaborations! When I used to work with small companies for social media marketing, I noticed that there are just too many people that don’t believe in themselves 1000% and/or not doing everything that they can (legally) to ensure success. I would also love to see more collaborations and less competitive mindsets. We can all win!

What is the best piece of business advice you have received to date?

To be me and trust my instincts. I have always been told that I have a light inside of me and to never dim it for anyone or any reason.

What is the number 1 critical lesson you have learned in your career so far?

Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans. It is not always easy having a balance in your life. You will never have it at all times, but I learned that having a balance and being productive doesn’t mean that you can’t make time for fun. You don’t always have to be on the clock!

How do you create an evenly balanced work and personal life?

Being proactive in managing my time. I have an excellent system that helps me to ensure that I record any time that is spent on things that I have to do while allowing time for things that I want to do/love to do. I try my best to schedule time for my health—physical, mental, emotional, spiritual as well as for my own development—creativity, education, speech.

The most essential part in balancing your life is to remain true to yourself and to listen to what you need. If something is off, you need a break, whatever it is…take the time to deal with it and do not put it off for another time.

The highlight of your career so far?

Being recognised as someone who can help people to change their lives and make a difference. Having opportunities like this one to share my experiences and knowledge!

Name a few good articles or books you have read recently?

‘Nice Girls Don’t Get Rich’ and ‘Good Leaders Ask Great Questions.’

What does your Podcast playlist look like?

‘She’s a Creative,’ ‘Mornings With Mike,”Spiritual Boss Babe’ ‘TED Talks Daily’ ‘The Goal Digger’ and ‘The MFCEO Project’

How do you measure your own terms of success?

I measure my success by my growth and my impact. The more that I go along my journey, I intend to learn more about myself, my environment and just life in general. I love that I have the opportunity to help other women want the same thing. The more that I grow, the more that I am able to help other women to improve their lives.

What does #BEYOUROWN mean to you?

It means owning your unique qualities and not apologizing for your great strengths! Own your journey and celebrate your strengths as a woman!

Lastly, what is next for GLO Guidance?

Exciting question! I am working on a lot of wonderful things, like building the Women Who GLO community and expanding GLO Guidance Academy! I am also working on some high-value coaching programs!
