#BEYOUROWN MEETS KIMBERLEY SPREEN-GLICK

For over 25 years, Kimberly Spreen-Glick has been blessed with many opportunities as a teacher, trainer, coach, program developer and director to work with countless great programs, companies and people in the health and wellness industry. She has presented workshops and lectures on wellness, yoga, fitness, leadership and personal development at conferences all over the world and served as a corporate director for over 11 years at Life Time, The Healthy Way of Life Company.

After studying positive psychology, personal development, spirituality, brain science and various wisdom traditions for over a decade, Kimberly stepped away from the corporate world in 2017 to begin The Inspired Life, LLC.  Through online programs and coaching as well as live events, she now passionately focuses on empowering women who want to make a difference to own their greatness and create success and fulfilment as the uplifters they came here to be for others, while also creating the incredible, balanced, happy life they personally desire and deserve to experience.

Thank you for joining us Kimberly, can you tell us a little bit about your background story and how it reflects who you are and what you do today?

Well, I was bullied as a little girl for being overweight which led to an over 15-year battle with eating disorders that started at age 10. I know all too well what it’s like to feel like you’re “not enough.”

At age 18, a co-worker and friend who was concerned for my health recommended I try a Jazzercise class. I only last 19 minutes through my first class but it was love at first grapevine. This is where both my love affair with the health and fitness industry as well as my physical healing began. It was still a long road, the crazy roller coaster kind…but that was a huge step for me. I ultimately decided I was meant to join the ranks of the fitness industry so I could pay it forward and help others.

It took time and a strong intention that I would need to rediscover over and over; but, my confidence as well as my passion for helping others grew. By my mid-twenties, I started receiving a variety of leadership opportunities that would take me both around the country and around the world. My goal has always been live a joyful life while also making a difference for others.

So now, when I see other women who just want to be a positive light in the world struggle the way I once did, I want nothing more than to throw them a lifeline. Courses, books and events are powerful and inspiring. In fact, they’re a necessary and regular part of my life, but when you get to the end of each of these, you find yourself on your own again to take on life.

This is why I created the Women Empowered Leadership Collective. So that women no longer feel alone. Inside the collective, we lock arms to be strong role models and make the world a better place together. I’m now living the life of my dreams and I get to help other women do the same!

Initially, you entered the fitness industry as a personal trainer as a way to help others get healthy the way fitness helped you, so can you explain to us how that led to you becoming one of ExerciseTV’s Star Trainers?

I actually started in the industry as a personal trainer at age 19 only because I was told that I “didn’t have what it takes to be a group fitness instructor.” I still took group classes every day and, just a few months into my new role as a trainer, I was given an opportunity by the program coordinator in need of a last-minute sub, to teach my first class.

It went really well and I had found my primary love within the industry – group  fitness. I went on to become a certified instructor then a group fitness manager, regional trainer, a national then international education presenter and speaker. It was after I had been presenting at conferences for a few years and had led several consumer fitness and yoga videos that ExerciseTV approached me to become one of their Star Trainers for a series of videos. That was one of my favourite projects! I think it was the combination of my passion and enthusiasm as well as my non-stop desire for learning and growth that led to opportunities like this.

How did you discover the world of positive psychology and personal development?

In 2006, I was serving in the role of a lifetime(quite literally) – I was the national director of group fitness and yoga for Life Time, The Healthy Way of Life Company. Yes, the girl who was told she didn’t have what it takes to teach group fitness was entrusted with the leadership of one of the industry’s most highly revered programs.

This was the year my passion for making a difference became more of an addiction. I felt so blessed to be given this leadership opportunity and also felt so obligated to do a great job for all of the managers and instructors I was tasked to support and serve. I was working 70-80 hours/week and on the road more than I was home.

I felt proud of the servant leader I had become yet I was so exhausted and started dealing with a number of health issues. I just knew deep inside there had to be a better way a way to make a positive impact in the world without losing or even killing yourself in the process.

In an effort to create the balance I was so in need of, I want to my first conference of a different kind. It wasn’t focused on fitness or yoga; called Celebrate Your Life and it highlighted some of the most amazing teachers, authors, thought leaders of our time. I took in the inspiration that weekend from Marianne Williamson, Don Miguel Ruiz, Iyanla VanSant, Dan Millman and more. It was like I got cracked open in the best way possible.

Soon after this, I found a series of similar events created by Louise Hay and Hayhouse Publishing called ‘I Can Do It’ where I started to learn from additional greats such as Wayne Dyer, Louise Hay, Carolyn Myss, Robert Holden, Bruce Lipton, Cheryl Richardson and Joe Dispenza. I couldn’t get enough. I’ve invested thousands of dollars as well as a tremendous amount of time travelling to and attending conferences, workshops and certificate intensives over the years.

I quickly realised that the more I learned about living my best life, the better instructor, coach, manager and human being I became. I ended up serving in my corporate role for 12 years and only moved on because of my desire to create The Inspired Life platform.

What I believe has made me successful to this day is my ability to simplify and translate all that I’ve learned – and continue to learn – in a way that helps me as well as others incorporate concepts, practices and processes into our day-to-day lives to improve our self-worth and create a life we love!

How you are balancing the work/life strife with The Inspired Life?

If you had told me 10-15 years ago, I would be living the fully balanced life of my dreams today, I would have thought you were crazy. But honestly, balancing work and life is a no-brainer for me these days. Making a positive difference in the lives of others is SO important to me that I insist on making self-care a priority.

I get to do the work I love and feel called to do and yet I make sure to get good rest, meditate daily, practise yoga, enjoy hiking outdoors, set healthy boundaries and spend great quality time with my amazing son, Tyler. You don’t find balance – you create it. And I’ve that I now get to help other women difference-makers create balance in their lives too!

What platforms are you using as marketing tools to promote The Inspired Life?

I’m primarily on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. I try to show up as often as I can to share positive messages and add value in any way I can.

What does #BEYOUROWN mean to you?

I think #BEYOUROWN is so incredibly powerful. We live in a world where we’re taught to look outside of ourselves for validation, acceptance and happiness. But true validation, acceptance and happiness can truly only be found within. It’s up to each one of us to own our greatness.

It’s up to each one of us to be the guardian of our time, energy, thoughts and ultimately our life experience. It’s up to each one of us to be our own hero. So, my question for every woman on this earth is this – will you #BEYOUROWN Hero?

What does 2020 look like for you and how are you looking to grow as a coach and teacher?

2020 is looking to be a magical year filled with positive momentum and many opportunities to bring women together so they can take their work and lives to the next level.

My Women Empowered Leadership Collective will continue to be my primary focus within The Inspired Life platform alongside our coaching programs and live events. I could not be more satisfied with where we are and yet so eager for what’s next!!
